assignment A
– prototyping survey –
Person 1: 24, male
––––––––––––––––––––––
Would you be interested in buying our product?
Yes. I really like the concept. It’s cool that it is presented as a square. But it doesn't look like an orange, more like a game for children. If it was completely transparent it would be easier to see what you are trying to sell. Visually it looks good.
When would you use the product?
In the winter and usually in the morning. I like to start the day with fruit.
What is the biggest inconvenience with eating oranges?
I usually only really crave one but I have to buy many oranges. Smaller packages are great.
Do you cut or peel your oranges?
I peel them. When I was younger my mom would cut them in pieces/spiral and on the bottom so they were really easy to eat.
Is there anything you would like that would make it easier to eat?
Hmmm…
We are thinking of implementing wipes. What do you think about that?
Yeah, that’s a good idea! It gets so sticky. I feel uncomfortable with the nail inside the peel.
Who do you think the product is for?
I thought it was a kids toy. It looked a bit like a rubber ball. But I think it would be good for people commuting, like people that are craving an orange but can’t buy a whole kilo.

Person 2: 33, female
––––––––––––––––––––––––
Would you be interested in buying our product?
Yes.
Why?
It’s a cute packaging. It looks interesting. You could give it as a gift to someone. It is a new way of presenting an orange. It increases the value.
What about the 4-pack?
Yes, that one is better. 1 pack: That one is maybe not so useful. I usually need more oranges than one.
Who do you think the product is for?
People interested in art. It’s cute but only the visuals. You only need the orange and not the packaging.
How do you eat oranges?
I don’t eat too much fruit. But I eat them in summer or in winter to get more vitamin C. I eat it in the morning. I cut it and eat it because it is the inside that matters. Or I squeeze them for juice, that’s usually how I use oranges. I don’t like to touch the peel.
Person 3: 31, male
––––––––––––––––––––––
Would you be interested in buying our product?
I don’t like it. Oranges already have its own packaging. So it’s a waste. The bigger one (4 pack) I would buy. It looks cool.
Who do you think the product is for?
People that care about aesthetics. My girlfriend would love it. It would fit people that are into Instagram.
What do you think of the design?
It’s colorful, nice and pretty.
How do you eat oranges?
I peel them, but my girlfriend cuts them. I am fine eating them with my hands. I eat it mostly for breakfast. I grab one for work and I like being able to just buy one.
Would you need anything to make it easier to eat an orange?
I really like the wipes idea.
Person 4: 47, female
–––––––––––––––––––––––
Would you be interested in buying our product?
Yes, not to bring home but to take on the way to work, when you’re in a rush and don’t have time for breakfast.
How do you perceive our brand and design?
The brand seems cheerful, puts you in a good mood. It's motivating and it gives you the will to eat oranges.
How could our design be improved?
The design is nice, cool, maybe you can add a mini bamboo knife to facilitate the peeling.
When would you use the product?
I would mainly buy it on my way to work, or when I’m craving a morning snack around 10am.
Who do you think this product is for?
I think it is perfect for workers who go to their office, or people who live alone and only need a few, but it would fit less for moms because children do not see the packaging.
What’s your biggest inconvenience when you buy fruit?
When you cannot buy only one or two fruits.
Do you cut or peel your oranges by hand?
I peel them.
In general, what experiences do you have with eating oranges? Would you need anything to help you?
A mini bamboo knife to facilitate the peeling, and the wipes would be perfect too.
An idea would be to put a stand at the entrance of offices, to motivate people to eat healthy and to avoid them to go to the supermarket.
assignment B
– improved packaging –
Based on our feedback from the survey we decided to do a few changes to the packaging of Val oranges.

First of all we decided to only go forward with the single package after we realized that the people that eat a lot of oranges will buy the nets of two kilos at Albert Heijn. We wanted to merely focus on a product that provided a whole experience and therefore it made the most sense to focus on the single package.

In every package of a Val orange there will be a PeelPick and hand sanitizer wipes. This prevents the consumer to put their nail into the peel preventing them from having to carve it out later and smell like oranges the whole day.

This addition reflects our brand essence: Classy, creative & clean.
